even stronger today as it moves over jamaica and heads to cuba. doug kammerer has more on how sandy could have an impact on us here. doug? >> it really could have an impact on our weather as we make our way into the weekend and early next week. hurricane sandy with winds of 80 miles an hour, just off the coast of the eastern portions of jamaica right now. really hit that eastern side very, very hard. winds upwards of 80 miles an hour, with stronger gusts. trees down, power outages there. now it's on its way over toward cuba. video a little bit earlier this morning as it was making its way onshore. the incredible surf this storm is producing, we'll see it move up the east coast over the next few days. it will be in cuba, bahamas, florida, carolina also, and portions of the northeast. the potential is there for this to be a very dangerous storm. here it is right there. winds right now 80 miles an hour. moving to the north at 14 miles per hour. on that track, moves very close to miami, just off the coast there. and then right up the coast, staying offshore through most of this time per

, a very different look inside the campaign from presidential historian doug brinkley who got an opportunity to watch his tore being made as well as what president obama called mitt romney. it rhymes with, well, show-bidder. it's causing outrage tonight. this, on the other hand, there may be reason for the romney campaign to cheer. the breaking news. the abc news/"washington post" tracking poll now has mitt romney ahead by three points and more crucially, hitting the 50% mark for the first time. in our own cnn poll of polls, governor romney currently enjoys a one-point lead, 48-47. as you no doubt know, the race will boil down to a few key states and tonight, we also have new numbers from the nbc/"wall street journal" poll in colorado showing the race there tied. in nevada, the same poll has president obama out front by three, whereas in virginia, new polling from fox has mr. romney up by two. that's a nine-point swing in his favor since september. now, not coincidentally the campaigns in the last several days have stopped in all of those states. take a look. how would you lik

continue our live team coverage. doug luzader is in delaware. first we start with maria molina for the latest on sandy's path. >> good morning everyone. we are still tracking sandy who has actually intensified over the last efrl hours and now have maximum sustained wind at 85 miles per hour. earlier in the show we mentioned on the western side of the storm we will be seeing significant snow across parts of the state of west virginia and western portions of the state of virginia. that snowfall has already begun falling out here we are talking about 2-3 feet of snow out here. interesting impact further off toward the west well inland away from sandy. shy of 400 miles southeast of the area. we have rain bands moving along shore across parts of delaware. the area in red has very heavy rain. we could see flooding very shortly. 10 inches of rain will be possible across portions of the mid atlantic. flooding a big concern. the wind is also starting to pick up across parts of long island. wind gusts shy of 40 miles per hour. the dark shading in blue wind gusts over 50 miles per hour. w

island new york. doug mckelway is in delaware. we begin with rick leventhal at point pleasant beach, new jersey. good evening, rick. >> bret, the wind is ridiculous at this hour. at #:00, i clock wind gust at 57 miles per hour. it feels like it's 70 to 80 now. i'm hanging on the rail or i probably, well, you can see the street. the ocean is merging with the ocean avenue. if you look to the left, not sure if you can tell how ferocious the winds are. they're in the 12 to 15 to 20-foot range. at times curling and crashing over the dunes to bring water to point pleasant. this town was evacuated yesterday. most of the residents heeded warnings. all of the beach communities up and down the new jersey shore were evacuated. some people chose not to leave. that included atlantic city, new jersey, where a section of the boardwalk washed away. emergency workers were rescuing some residents with light boats and -- lifeboats and high water vehicles throughout the day. at this point, the governor told people if you are still home, don't try to get out. hunker dune try to ride the storm out. the storm
